My daughter and I visited the mall a couple of days ago, (known as The Shoppes at Carlsbad) when she wanted to buy a gift for her friends' birthday.  I hadn't been to that mall in several months.  When we walked in, it looked eerie and empty.  There are a few stores operating but for the most part, it's pretty bare.

Originally opened in 1968, it was once the largest indoor mall in San Diego County, with 1.1 million square feet of retail space and almost 200 merchants. The center is currently undergoing a multi-phase renovation that includes comprehensive cosmetic upgrades to the two-story, center’s interiors and street scapes which will be complete at the end of 2017.

The redevelopment  includes the addition of brand-new retail, dining and entertainment including Dave and Buster’s.  My son, 9, about freaked out when I told him Dave and Buster's was going to be located at this mall.  No more driving 30 miles to play skeeball! In fact, the GRAND OPENING is January 30th.  Doors open to the public at 11:00 am.

The Cheesecake Factory and Yard House will be opening in late 2017.

The renovation will capture Carlsbad's beach-centric lifestyle with the addition of contemporary coastal living-inspired architectural elements, including weather wood accents, natural stone, woven textiles and native plants.

This makeover is a long time coming and we're looking forward to the new change.
