San Diego's very own AleSmith Brewing Company was named as having one of the top 100 BEST beers in the world according to the reviews of 2016 by RateBeer.com. RateBeer is an independent worldwide site for craft beer enthusiasts and is dedicated to serving the entire craft beer community through beer education, promotion and outreach. Both Speedway Stout and Reforged were the beers that took home the title.
AleSmith has come a long way in the last few years. In 2015 they expanded and opened up a brand new 106,000 square foot brewery. It includes a 25,000-square-ft. tasting room (the largest in San Diego), a museum honoring the memory of San Diego Padres great Tony Gwynn, which was built in association with the Hall of Famer’s family, and a speak easy within AleSmith called Anvil and Stave where patrons can enjoy one-of-a-kind barrel-aged beers.
Over the next few months, AleSmith will be working on the next phase of expansion. There has been a temporary wall installed on the South-side of the tasting room while construction takes place to relocate their gift shop and expand their tasting room to include an upstairs mezzanine and outdoor patio.
We truly love AleSmith! Not just because our brother in law, Peter Zien is the owner, but because it's a good story about a brewery that started out with humble beginnings and is now earning the accolades it so much deserves.
